I just visited the Pueblo Zoo and I had a great time. This is definitiely a small zoo, but the price is very resonable. The zoo is has arranged the exibits in a geographic theme. Asian, African, and American animals mostly grouped together.
I decided to make the trip because the Zoo in Colorado Springs does not have any Kangaroos. The Austrailian display was great. There was a young joey that we saw that was barely out of the pouch.
Many of the displays were a little lack luster, but there were several high points that made up for the rest. The zoo has a wonderful enclosure with a pride of about 5 lions. I was able to get within 10 inches of an adult female through a plexiglass veiwing window. WOW! What an impressive animal!
I also really enjoyed the Ecocenter. This is an open display with lots of exotic birds, reptiles, and mammals. The display is a lush rainforest with lots of live plants. There is a group of Tamarins that was very active while we were there. They were climbing in the foliage just feet above our heads. These are absolutly adorable little primates.
The other display in the ecocenter is the penguins. These animals were very interactive with us. Half the display is under water with a glass veiwing window. The penguins were swimming right next to the glass and they were chasing every movement of my camera. This was a great opportunity to get some great pictures.
The river otter display was a similar set up. The otters were also very interactive and would follow your hand around the glass.
The education center is also well worth the visit. There are lots of real microscopes to play with, a must for the junior scientists of the family.
This zoo doesn't have many of the most glamorous animals, but they do a very good job with what they do have. This is well worth the time and the small price of admission. |
