| From the beginning, underground explorers doubted that they would ever find the end of Kentucky's Mammoth Cave. Currently weighing in at 350 miles long and 379 feet deep, Mammoth Cave is known as the longest cave in the world. In Mammoth's vast subterranean world, there are giant vertical shafts, from the towering 192-foot-high Mammoth Dome to the 105-foot-deep Bottomless Pit. Some passages and rooms are decorated with sparkling white gypsum crystals, while others are filled with the colorful, sculpted shapes of stalactites, stalagmites, and other cave formations. Underground rivers with names like Echo River and the River Styx flow through Mammoth's deepest chambers. |

| Mammoth Cave was awesome. The National Park service knows how to give you and your family the best experience possible. My 8 and 9 years old sons loved it. The staff is knowledgeable (one of our tour guides was fourth generation and he was outstanding)and the facilities are excellent with a focus on safety for all on the trip. The area is surrounded by various tourist traps, including the other smaller caves, e.g. Diamond Caves, more costly, tour kids rather than tour guides and not as safety conscious. Don't waste your family's time or money going to the other places, stick with the tours at Mammoth. You can select from a variety of tours and purchase multiple tours to reduce the overall price and increase the value. I recommend the Historic Tour, the Frozen Niagara, and the Star Chamber tour. |
